How to check-in for your whale watching cruise
Please check-in at least 20 minutes prior to your cruise departure time, at the Sea World Cruises Terminal in Main Beach. Follow directional signage when entering the Sea World car park. Entry to Sea World Marine Park is not required.

What should I bring?
We suggest wearing flat enclosed shoes and bringing a warm jacket, sunglasses, a camera, and seasickness remedy (if required).
Will I get seasick?
Seasickness, also known as motion sickness, travel sickness, airsickness or carsickness, may occur in response to certain types of movement – such as the rocking of a vessel on the ocean. Seasickness is preventable for most individuals. For seasickness advice, visit our seasickness page.
How long is the whale watching tour?
Please allow up to 2.5 hours for the tour.
Where does the cruise depart from?
Our cruises depart from the Sea World Cruises Terminal, Seaworld Drive, Main Beach. Ample free parking is available onsite in the Sea World theme park car park.
What if it rains on the day of my cruise?
Whale watching tours operate in the rain. Rain does not affect the whales’ behaviour, and the vessels have large covered decks for passenger comfort. On rainy days bringing a raincoat is recommended. Ponchos are available for purchase at check-in, subject to availability.
Do you operate in rough sea conditions?
If rough sea conditions are expected, we will notify you at check-in. You can choose to proceed with the tour, reschedule, or receive a full refund. We will only operate if it is safe to do so.
Can I purchase food and drinks on the whale watching tour?
The Sea World Cruises Terminal café offers a selection of sweet and savoury treats, cold drinks, alcoholic beverages (served after 10:00 AM), tea, and percolated coffee. Kindly note: we do not serve barista-style coffee. You are welcome to take items from the café with you onboard.

Can I purchase photos from the cruise?
A dedicated photographer will capture your group’s boarding photo and images of the whales during your tour. You can purchase these as prints, which include complimentary digital files, onboard during your return journey. Proceeds support our marine conservation programs.
How likely am I to see whales?
Chances of seeing whales during the season are extremely high, as thousands migrate past the Gold Coast coastline. In the unlikely event your tour does not encounter a whale, you will receive a free return tour voucher, valid for 12 months.
When is whale watching season on the Gold Coast?
The Gold Coast whale watching season starts in late May and runs to early November. Thousands of humpback whales migrate along the coast, with peak sightings occurring from July to September.
How close do whales come to the boat?
As a responsible whale watching operator, we follow the Rules for Watching Marine Mammals established by the Queensland Government. This means the closest we will approach a whale is 100 metres. However, the whales can approach the vessel as closely as they wish and frequently choose to do so. This behaviour is known as mugging.
What types of whales will I see?
Humpback Whales travel past the Gold Coast during their annual migration. You may even be fortunate enough to see dolphins, turtles, and other marine and birdlife during the cruise.
What time of day is best for seeing the whales?
The whale watching season runs from May to October, offering prime opportunities to experience these majestic creatures in action. Whales are equally active throughout the day, with no noticeable difference between morning and afternoon sightings. Whether it’s dawn or dusk, you’re just as likely to witness their incredible behaviour.

A general admission whale watching ticket includes an unforgettable cruise of up to 2.5 hours along the iconic “Humpback Highway.” Guests board at the Sea World Cruises Terminal and enjoy access to indoor interpretive displays before taking their seats on a purpose‑built whale‑watching vessel featuring live underwater viewing and hydrophones. Knowledgeable marine naturalist guides provide expert commentary throughout, and all cruises come with a 100% whale-sighting guarantee. Food and drinks are not included, but the terminal café offers refreshments, and light snacks and beverages are available for purchase onboard.
Can I buy a gift voucher?
If you don’t want to choose your booking date now, purchase a Gift Voucher from our website. Gift Vouchers are valid for 3 years from the purchase date and can be easily redeemed online. Gift to yourself, a college or friends and family. Gift vouchers are a flexible way to gift our experiences.
Can I change my booking date?
Select Manage My Booking on our website. It’s easy and convenient to change a booking time, booking date, or add more passengers. You may amend or cancel your booking up to 3 hours before departure with no penalty.
Can I cancel my booking and get a refund?
You may amend or cancel your booking up to 3 hours before departure without penalty. Cancellations made within 3 hours of departure will forfeit 100% of the fare. For group bookings of 10 or more guests, a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required. In the unlikely event that Sea World Cruises cancels a cruise, you’ll be offered the choice of a full refund or a 12 month credit for future use. Combination Tickets are non-refundable. What if you cancel my tour?
If we cancel your tour, we will notify you via SMS at least 2 hours before your departure time. You will have the option to reschedule your experience to another day or receive a full refund.
